Motorcycle Repair: evo help, backyard mechanics, leak down test

Question
hi i have 92 softail stock motor.it had been burning unreal amounts of oil.lower and upper gaskets are leaking.i took the upper half apart .the pistons, rings, and cylinders look great but the valves are black"and top of pistons"and pretty caked on carbon.could it be the valve seals letting oil in to burn.although i havent checked the cylinders yet with a mic ,i just cant believe it would be the rings or pistons causing it.this is the first bike motor i have taken part but i do have 15 years machining and some backyard mechanics.any info would help thanks.i dont want to have to throw my wallet at a mechanic and say fix it ,i want the pride of doing it myself.

Answer
BALL HONE THE CYLINDERS AND INSTALL NEW RINGS ON PISTONS, YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE ALL 4 OF THE VALVE SEATS CUT AND INSTALL NEW EXHAUST VALVES, USE VITRON VALVE GUIDE SEALS, SINSE YOU DID NOT DO A LEAK DOWN TEST OR A COMPRESSION TEST I CAN NOT TELL YOU WHERE THE MOTOR WAS. AND YOU DID NOT SAY HOW MANY MILES WERE ON THE MOTOR. USE JAME GASKET ONLY. JOHNNY
