Motorcycle Repair: YamahaV-star 1100 Classic, lockhart phillips, motorcycle usa

Question
I have a 2002 V-star 1100 Classic, but is much too big for my size( 5'1"tall with 24" inseam), but I fell in love with the bike. I bought a custom seat and installed a lowering kit. The handlebars were too far forward so I bought 4" risers from Pro-One and found out that the front brake cable was too short and would not allow me to attach the bars to the risers. I am trying to locate a vendor that could make me a front brake line from the master cylinder to the "split" fitting under the triple tree( everyone one is trying to sell me all three lines to the dual disc brakes...and all very expensive stainless!). Can I get away with replacing only the brake line and not all the others...(2)throttles, clutch and choke? and does anyone make less expensive plain black custom length brake lines and cables? Any help in this matter would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,
John

Answer
Hi John,

That's an awesome MC.

You can custom make your own stainless steel braided lines to fit the exact length needed. Check on-line for Lockhart-Phillips Racing (www.lockhartphillipsusa.com). May require the purchase of special tool to crimp fitting ends. Might be less expensive than buying the 3-pc. set.

Visit: "www.motorcycle-usa.com/forum" (membership is free, but required) and post this same question on the message board under "Ask Motoman" and read the replies from other members. This is a very good website for MC owners and riders. Lots of tech stuff and more.
