Motorcycle Repair: Deceleration exhaust popping, lean condition, losing faith

Question
I have an '02 EFI Fatboy. I have installed V&H Big shot pipes with baffles and it developed a popping sound on deceleration. My local HD dealer told me that a power commander would solve the problem. I bought that and had them remap on their dyno and the problem is still there. There only suggestion now is to buy different pipes. The popping goes away if I pull in the clutch. Do I possibly have an exhaust leak where they bolt up to the motor? I am losing faith in my local dealer. Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Their answer is to spend more money. The only other mods. it has is a stage 1 download and air cleaner. I was told the power commander would override that download and the problem would be gone.  Thanks Brian

Answer
Hi Brian
The popping on deceleration is a lean condition. the power commander can get that out with proper tuning, The exhaust system you bought the V & H Big shot pipes killed about 10 horse power and 15 ft lbs of torque acrosss the entire power band. I know if it looks good and works bad thats good, and if it works good and looks bad thats bad. well if you want your bike to run correctly get a good exhaust system on the bike and have it tuned by a pro tuner, the exhaust I would use is a White Brothers E-Series 2 into 1 exhaust system. Then have the bike tuned by a different shop. you probly dont have a exhaust leak. you can that me later   SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY  www.southsidesdyno.com
