Motorcycle Repair: kawasaki speedometer, kawasaki zephyr 550, xs4all nl

HI Wayne,  while riding my 1994 Kawasaki Zephyr 550 last week the Speedometer dropped dead. No needle action, no odometer action but the power is still reaching the unit because the light is still illuminated.  Where should I be looking for any mechanical fault or should I replace it?  Thanks Adam

doesn't this model have a mechanical speedo cable?
Have you checked the cable and the drive
mechanism on the wheel?
If it's electric, it is probably the wheel
or transmission sensor or the speedo unit.
