Motorcycle Repair: what soap to use for washing, honda nighthawk 650, 1983 honda nighthawk 650

Question
I just bought a 1983 honda nighthawk 650, and i've read various places that for motorcycles you should not use dish soap or other houshold soaps to wash it because of the strong alkaline nature of them, or something like that.
Is it really that important? We always use dishsoap on our car, and i wondered if it really mattered if i use it on my bike.

P.S. I don't even know what other soap i would use...

Answer
O.k.  Heres the scoop. Your not going to be doing your car or motorcycle a dis-service if you use regular dish soap. You arent going to harm anything.  I would remember though, to use it in moderation because with any soap, you can leave a residue on the vehicle.
Now I will tell you WHY people are telling you not to use dish-soap. Dish-soap has an agent in it to remove grease, and that same agent will remove the wax from your vehicle. So remember, if you wax your vehicle, and wash it the next time, you have just taken off the wax you have applied. Get it?

I hope this helps.....
