Answer
Hi Ted,

Reference the carbs being cleaned, when was this work performed and has the MC sat with gas in the carbs since? Do you have the carbs off the engine and opened on a work area now?

You need a dial caliper or verneer caliper to measure float height accurately. You can buy a float height measuring tool for about $30-40, or you can buy a cheap caliper for $10-25 and get more accurate results.

Experience tells me that when someone brings their MC to the shop and says, "I cleaned the carbs" and the engine has a running problem, this is where my work begins. I find that during the cleaning something was overlooked, not done, or not done properly. I would start with a carb cleaning including float height inspection, and followed with a synchronization. Remember every pinhole inside the carbs is critical for proper operation.

If you want carb cleaning, tuning, and synchronization files, send me your email address as requested and I will return the files.

Respectfully,
