Nissan Repair: 1994 Nissan pickup

Pickup lost power ,missing and finally stalled out. Will start,but runs rough and eventually stops running.Mechanic says timing belt or chain is OK. Any ideas or places to start looking.The vehicle is a 1994 Nissan XE 4x4.It is also a four cylinder engine.I have a Chilton's manual for this year of pickup but it is very vague.I believe it is probably a valve train issue.Please help. Thank you.

Hi Jim -

Is your check engine light on?

If not, I would check the fuel pump. Proper pressure is about 35 - 40 PSI. Also take a volume test. Remove the fuel line coming from the tank after the filter. Turn the ignition on and in 3 seconds you should have at least a cup of fuel.
