Nissan Repair: Brakelights stay on, 2000 Nissan Sentra XE

Question
Aloha,
I have, what I hope, is a relatively easy question.
I hope the solution is equally simple.
My 2000 Nissan Sentra XE's brake lights stay on, even with the engine off and the key removed.
How do I check, and, if necessary, change the brake light switch ?
Mahalo (thank you), in advance, for any assistance you can provide.
God Bless you,
Roy

Answer
Hi Roy

There is a small rubber grommet that snaps in to the brake pedal stem above the area where your foot presses against the pedal. That is also where the switch is. This grommet holds the switch open when the brake is not applied.

Since it is only rubber it breaks easily. This is probably what happened. Any auto parts store should carry it. Only a couple dollars, but it takes some maneuvering to get it in.

Hope this helps
Aloha
