Nissan Repair: No Reverse, nissan frontier, costly solution

Question
I have a 2000 Nissan Frontier with an automatic transmission, it has no reverse but drives forward. Also if you drop it into first it is sluggish. Will I have to replace the whole transmission or is there an easier, less costly solution?

Answer
Hi Andrew -

Yes, reverse is the first gear that usually goes because it is the highest gear ratio. If changing the oil does not do it, then I would say it is due for an overhaul.

I wish it was not the case, but there are no shortcuts. Best thing to do is the entire overhaul.

You might try an additive called AT205. Helped me a few times when the trans didn't even go in gear. Iver here Carquest carries it, don't know in your area -

Hope this helps -
