Nissan Repair: Infinity i30t wont start, crank pulley, air conditioning compressor

Question
QUESTION: My Infinity i30t was losing power so I called my mechanic enroute to the shop. He felt is was the alternator. I pulled over before I reached him due to traffic and had it towed in. Once we reached the mechanic he pulled on the belt and the alternator showed some life since it did turn a little. The "back pulley" was frozen solid. The next day he replaced the crank pulley and censor. He also said the battery was old and should be replaced soon. I replaced it the next day with an Energizer battery at Sam's. Three days later my car won't start. The first tries started to turn but wouldn't catch. I tried to jump it but no luck. After three attempts it wouldn't turn over at all or show any life. I had the MAF sensor replaced about 3 or 4 years ago. I replaced the radiator and the air conditioning compressor about 4 weeks ago. I have searched all similar posts and don't see anything specific to this issue that would help. I am not mechanically inclined so could have very easily missed something. There are no warning lights or indicator lights lit on dash prior to the issue.

ANSWER: Hi Ray -

Are you saying that currently when you turn the key to try and start the car, there are no lights on your instrument panel and no sound?

If so, the battery may be defective. Have it charged and load tested, replace it if it is defective (it is still under warranty), and see if the car starts then -

Let me know -

QUESTION: Hi Calvin,

Thanks for responding.  I just went down to the shopping center lot where I left car last night. When I put key in ignition all the lights in car come on, radio works etc, so not the new battery i am guessing..... When I turn the key in ignition there is no sound of battery trying to start, and I feel like it tried to start a few times last night, but it is making no turnover/start sounds this morning.  By the way, it's a 2001 Infiniti.
Any other suggestions or ideas greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Ray -

You were saying the car worked fine for 3 days and then it did not start again. This tells me that the battery either was not charged by the alternator, or there is a drain.

Was the alternator replaced?

The lights on the dash, although working does not necessarily mean the battery is still good, as it takes a lot more energy to turn the starter.

Can you do this test for me - turn on the headlights and try starting the car. Let me know if the headlights turn off abruptly.
