Nissan Repair: Transmission Oil leak in Maxima, nissan maxima se, nissan maxima

Question
Hello Calvin,
My question is if there is a slight transmission oil leak in a 1999 Nissan Maxima SE(manufactured in Japan), is it okay to try one the additives that are designed to stop transmission oil leaks first rather than taking it directly to the shop? Also if the slight leaking continues and it turns out that a new gasket is what is needed, what is a reasonable charge?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Mary Ann -

Yes. Here in Hawaii I use an additive called AT205. Works very well with transmissions. I get it from Carquest, but I am sure you can Google it.

If it does come to an overhaul, price ranges from $1500, $2000 and up depending on how deep you want to go into the work, and of course parts that needed to be replaced.

Hope this helps -
aloha
