Nissan Repair: 05 altima 2.5s, crank sensor, ecu

Question
Hi calvin,

I disconnected the crank sensor
from the crank sensor connecter
and started the car, no check engine
light, does the ecu have to be reprogramed
to accept the new crank sensor?

thanks again,
eric

Answer
Hi Eric -

If the CEL does not come on with the sensor disconnected and car starts, the computer thinks that all is OK. This means that the computer is defective. I know you checked this, but ensure that the connector is not damaged.

Try a couple things first to verify:

Turn the ignition on and observe the check engine light. If it should go on and turn off after a few seconds. Do this with the sensor plugged in and unplugged.

Remove the ECU fuse for a few seconds and replace. Try starting the car with sensor plugged in.

Let me know what happens
