Nissan Repair: nissan altima, timing chain replacement, nissan altima

Question
i had  my car towed to  a Nissan auto repair because it would not start.  they    told me it was $120.00 to diagnose . i was first told it was the time and chine, which would cost $1,800.00 to fix.  A week later I was told I need a new motor because the timing had jumped 60 degree and it would cost $4,000.00 to fix.  I said no i can't afford that .  I was told it would cost me $350.00 to pick the car up as is because they had to take it apart, or I could pay $500.00 and they would put the car back together and I would still have to pay another tow bill to have it towed to my house.

This seems very wrong

Answer
Hi Pat -

This is very wrong. First of all those prices are excessive. Timing chain replacement should be less than half of what they quoted, even less.

Secondly, what was the car towed in for? Did it overheat? What was the reason for it not starting?

Please get a second opinion from a competent mechanic who can ask the right questions. Did you OK them to take the car apart? They would have had to ask you for authorization, otherwise you are not required to pay what was done so far.

I would get your car out of there and not pay any of what they are asking for unless it was agreed upon.

Good luck
