Nissan Repair: 05 altima 2.5s, little gasoline, coil pack

Question
QUESTION: hello, my 05 altima 2.5s had the codes pop up for the cam and crank sensors, i replaced those then i had it scaned to see if anything else might be wrong, the codes p0340, and p0301 popped up, so i checked the connection on the cam sensor and made sure it was on tight, then i had scaned it and came up with no codes, i parked my car and turned off the engine and the next morning it would not start, it will turn over but will not start up. i have replaced the battery, the altenator and the positve terminal connection for the battery, the spark plugs, a coil pack and the pcv valve. do you have any ideas?

ANSWER: Hi Eric

Try checking if there is spark first.

Remove on spark plug lead and insert a screwdriver in the boot until it wedges against the terminal inside. Hold the screwdriver shaft 1/4" away from any metal surface of the engine and have a helper crank the engine as if to start it. There should be a spark jumping between the metal surfaces.

Let me know if this is happening.

P0340 is camshaft circuit malfunction and P0301 is cylinder #1 misfire. Hopefully that was the coil pack that was replaced.

QUESTION: Hi Calvin,

i checked for a spark and all four are sparking

thanks,
eric

ANSWER: Hi Eric -

OK, then we know it is not electrical. Has to be fuel.
Try priming the intake manifold with starting fluid or as little gasoline. Introduce it into the intake boot, close it up and quickly start the engine.

Let me know what the results are. Does it start and run for a couple seconds and then shut off?

QUESTION: It only turns over but does not start.

thank you,

Answer
Hi Eric -

That is certainly strange. You got spark and even priming the intake will not get fire.

Have you checked the timing mark alignment? Perhaps the belt slipped.

Check the ECU:
Turn the ignition on and leave it on. See if the check engine light turns off after a few seconds. If it does, then the ECU is OK.
