Nissan Repair: 00 INFINITI I30, automatic tranny, infiniti i30

I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC TRANNY. I GET A WHIRRING SOUND WHEN IN DRIVE AND REVERSE BUT NOT IN NEUTRAL OR PARK. THE SOUND GETS LOUDER AND LOUDER WHEN BACKING UP AND GOES AWAY AT ABOUT 40MPH. I GOT CODES THAT TOLD ME I HAVE A SLIP IN GEAR 1 AND GEAR 2. WHAT PART IS FAILING THAT COULD BE CAUSING THE NOISE?

Hi Ash -

Looks like it is the bands. They allow the shifting to be smooth. If it is too tight, the shift between gears would be too abrupt, and too loose, what you are experiencing, or in extreme cases no shift at all.

So they need to be adjusted, and depending on the mileage of your car, should do an overhaul.
