Nissan Repair: Speed meter failure, nissan mistral, speedometer cable

I have a Nissan Mistral (Model 1997) whose speed meter on the dash board has stopped moving and the mileage has stopped changing. How do I sort it it out, the local mechanics seem unable to help.

Hi Elias -

The first thing I would check is the speedometer cable. There is a threaded metal coupling that attaches the housing to the transmission. Find that, and unscrew it to inspect the plastic gear inside. Also pull out the cable within the housing and inspect that too.

On some models you have to remove the instrument panel, and unsnap the housing from the rear of the pa nel to get the cable out.
