Nissan Repair: nissan grand livina 2008 fuel consumption, mileage car, fuel mileage

Question
good day sir, i have just purchased a grand livina, but the fuel consumption i get on the open road @ 120km/hr is only 10 km/liter.....is this normal for a 1600 engine or is there some tuning or adjusting required? my friends who drive the same car say they get between 12 and 14 km/liter. please advise me what can be done, if anything, to improve my car's consumption. thank you and i eagerly await you expert reply

Answer
Hi Darryl -

This is difficult, not being there to check things out, but here are a few ideas -

If your car is automatic transmission, ensure it is in proper working order. If it is slipping, you lose valuable fuel mileage.

Car is tuned up and not misfiring

Tires are correct size and inflated properly. Tires that are too large and underinflated can create too much drag

Exhaust system is not blocked

Hope this helps -
