Nissan Repair: 2005 nissan pathfinder check engine soon, 2005 nissan pathfinder, nissan pathfinder

Question
QUESTION: i just purchase a used 2005 nissan pathfinder a week later check engine soon light comes on , what does that mean

ANSWER: Hi Elvin -

The check engine light (CEL) will illuminate when one of several sensors report to the car's computer that something is not right. It could be anywhere from emissions to driveability issues, anywhere from need to fix, or non serious, most of which is the latter.

A device called an OBD is plugged into the car's computer system and will download the "code(s)" that make the CEL illuminate. There are literally hundreds of codes with different meanings, so it is important to get the right info through the OBD.

I think autozone will do that for free. I would suggest you get the code, and if you would like to get back to me and tell me the number (it will start with P0- - -) and I can tell you exactly what is wrong.

Hope this helps -

QUESTION: Thank you i went to auto zone and the code they gave me was p1446

Answer
Hi Elvin -

Code P1446 is the Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage (DM-TL) Pump Control Circuit Signal High.

Since the module is a very expensive part ($400 for the part alone), I would start with replacing the fuel tank cap. Sounds weird, but in many cases this will reset the light.

The other option is to reset the light(if autozone has not done it already), and see if it comes on again. Sometimes it is a nuisance signal.

Let me know how this goes -
