Nissan Repair: 300zx power seat, nissan 300 zx, 1985 nissan 300 zx

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1985 Nissan 300 zx with a drivers power seat. It stopped working the other day and will do nothing. Where is the fuse for the seat? I have looked everywhere

ANSWER: Next to the fuse block there are circuit breakers. One of them is designated to the power seats. They look like big fuses with metal cover. Also check the wiring connector under the seat. Another probable cause is a failed seat motor.

QUESTION: there is no circuit breakers next to the fuse block.....the fuse block is located on the inside kick panel, drivers side. There is a box of circuit breakers under the hood on the passenger side fender, but none is designated for the power seats or any acc..... any other suggestions?
I even called the local Nissan Dealership and the service manager said his books only go back to 1992

Answer
Sorry, cannot locate a wiring diagram that goes that far back. If you can do electrical work, disconnect the electrical connector by the switch that activates the sear motor. Turn the ignition to "acc" position and verify 12 volt on the positive terminal. If there is power on the terminal,(if I remember correctly it's the yellow or blue wire), reconnect it and remove the switch. Unplug the connector that goes to the switch and verify power there also. Check the switch for continuity with a self powered volt/ohm multimeter while you are holding the button on the forward and backward positions. If there is continuity in all positions then the motor has failed which I believe is the problem. If there is no power at all in that system, the relay has failed. The relays are always used in power windows, seats, headlights, horn, fuel pump etc. Locate the relay in the relays block and remove it. There should be 12 volt power in one of the terminals, there are 4. With a paper clip or a small wire jump terminal 2. (Make sure you don't jump the ground terminal or it will blow the fuse.) See if the seat moves. If it does, replace the relay. Now the problem is that is very hard to find schematic diagrams and used or new parts for an 1984 Nissan and it is hard for me to remember the wiring colors and terminal numbers of every vehicle, so if this info doesn't help, my recommendation is to take this problem to an auto electric shop.
