Nissan Repair: 2001 Nissan Senta shaking, engline light on, and runs hot, spark plug wire, vacuum leak

Question
When I turn on my car it starts shaking. It calms down a bit while I'm driving, but now the engine light is on. I opened the hood and it was too hot to touch anything.

Answer
Probable causes are: A vacuum leak, a misfiring cylinder due to a bad ignition wire, a fouled spark plug, a burnt valve and a failed fuel injector. A vacuum leak and a failed fuel injector they would cause the Check Engine Light to come on. The former, because the O2 sensor sends a lean signal to the computer and the latter because the computer will detect a leaky fuel injector. Also, a retarded timing, will cause the motor to run hot and perform very poorly. Make sure that the initial timing is set according to specifications. Do a balance test to isolate the misfiring cylinder. With the engine running, unplug one spark plug wire at a time and observe a change in each cylinder. The good cylinders will cause a more erratic idle but the bad cylinder will show no change. Please exercise caution when you do this test as the spark from a leaky ignition wire can be dangerous! Then you need to get the trouble codes out of the ECM and see what you got. If you don't have a scan tool and if there is an Autozone store near you, they will extract the trouble codes for you for free.
