Nissan Repair: repair, high tension wires, exhaust gas analyzer

Question
what do i need for a tuneup for 2003 nissan pathfinder

Answer
Basically, a tuneup is a procedure that applies more to older cars than the new ones. It is a maintenance service like changing the oil. On old cars the spark plugs should be replaced, new ignition breaker points installed and set the timing. A carburetor idle adjustment using an exhaust gas analyzer and probably change the air and fuel filters and in some cases a valve adjustment.
But there aren't any such adjustments for your 2003 pathfinder. The ECU does it all! So, all you need, it's a set of fresh spark plugs, a fuel and an air filter and then make a visual inspection. Look for deteriorated vacuum hoses that may leak, high tension wires that may cause the engine to misfire, especially under load, check for broken insulation on all sensor and actuator wiring including the fuel injectors electrical connections. Check the battery terminals for corrosion and looseness, check the grounds, they should be clean and tight. A loose electrical connection that it might arc, it could damage the ECU. Also don't forget to use "dielectric compound" in the spark plug boots. This also allows for easier removal of the sp. plug boots the next time!
