Nissan Repair: PO328, PO732 and PO300 2005 Nissan Maxima, 2005 nissan maxima, competent mechanic

Question
I have a 2005 Nissan Maxima with the fault codes:
P0328 Knock sensor, PO300 Random misfire detected and PO732 Gear 2 incorrect ratio.

The symptom is lower power acceleration such that when I start  engine and put gear in drive/ reverse it move at the slowest speed and  could not climb high hill.

Any ideas what the causes of these problems are and how much to fix?

Answer
Hello -

The first thing I would do is to fix the engine misfire. I would replace spark plugs first. Hopefully that will do the trick, maybe about $25 for plugs. If you still have no power, then the misfire could be coils, wire, or distributor. At this point I would take it to a competent mechanic, as he would have the diagnostic tools to determine what is misfiring. This may cost between $100 and $200 depending what the cause is.

Have the codes cleared, and then see if any codes return. A lot of times the misfire code sets of other codes, so it makes sense to do one at a time.

Hope this helps -
