Nissan Repair: 1995 nissan altima, air flow meter, nissan altima

Question
QUESTION: My altima started to stutter then stalled, got it to start again then same problem 1st mechanic said air flow meter, changed that!$$  2 days later same problem next mechanic said fuel filter, changed that$ next fuel pump , changed that and relay and spark plugs and air filter $$$ none of this worked car starts and sputters and dies... (if you step on gas it dies faster) now mechanic says its the distributor! Please tell me if this could be the cause!

ANSWER: Hi Gina -

Gee, I am sorry you had to spend all those $$$$$$.

Not being there, it is difficult to diagnose. That being said, can you please help me with some questions -

When the car sputters and dies, is it warmed up, cold, or does not matter?

Are you telling me that the car cannot drive? When you try to press the accelerator, it dies off right away?

Does the engine idle at all?

When it stalls does it start up again right away?

Let me know -

QUESTION: Hi, it does not matter if its cold or warm, when you press the accelerator it dies, the engine will idle but after a few it dies, and it does start right up after stalling though.

Answer
Hi Gina -

I know you replaced the fuel pump, but it sure sounds like the pump to me. Have the mechanic who replaced it double check the fuel pump pressure. Perhaps it is defective, or installed incorrectly.

I highly doubt it is the distributor. There is an ignition module in the distributor, but usually it only fails when the engine is hot. As for the distributor itself, I don't think so.

Have that fuel pump re-checked and let me know -
