Nissan Repair: 1995 nissan sentra, nissan sentra, temperature gage

Question
my 1995 nissan sentra is too hot the temperature gage is way pass high and the h. my fan is not clicking on under my hood, and theres no water in the radiator i tried pouring some in there that didnt help. whats wrong with my car and how can i save it.

Answer
Hi Javonne -

First step is to let it cool completely. Then open the radiator cap and fill it up with water.

Start the car and observe: (If the water gushes out of the radiator while you are trying to start it, let me know right away)

1. If your fan is not turning on, that would be why it is overheating.

2. There are 5 reasons the fan will not activate:

a. Thermostat is stuck
b. Fan motor burnt out
c. Fan switch not working
d. Temp sending unit defective
e. Fan motor relay defective

This is in the order of probability.

I would just immediately replace the thermostat and work from there.

Hope this helps -
