Nissan Repair: 1993 pathfinder 4X4 - slow speed stalling, psi test, garage tools

Question
QUESTION: can you give me some idea as to how to deal with the problem of slow speed stalling? .....I have changed the rotor and cap, gapped the plugs ( they are not new - but the old ones ) and done a fuel pump/line psi test and it is at normal pressure. the only thing I can add is that when I first got the vehicle about six months ago in park it did an idle rise up and down after being driven and went pretty low in revs ( it does that alot now ) and all i had to do was turn the ignition off wait 30 seconds and turn it on again and it idled normally...but not now.

ANSWER: Hi Peter -

I would check the IAC (Idle Air Control) on the intake.

Is the check engine light on?

QUESTION: how do i check the idle air control? is this something you can describe that a beginner can do?

where is this IAC and can it be easily adjusted with home garage tools?

Answer
Hi Peter -

Unfortunately if you do not have certain tools, like a multimeter and the technical specs, it makes more sense to take it to a reputable specialist.

If you follow the rubber intake boot from the front of the car and where it meets the aluminum throttle, the IAC should be in that area. Should have a harness connected to it and a couple of mounting bolts.

It is not adjustable, as it controls the idle by low voltage impulses that sense what position the throttle is.

My advice is to go ahead and take it to a reputable mechanic. Without the proper tools and knowledge, it will be like shooting in the dark.

Hope this helps -
