Nissan Repair: Timing Chain, 2004 nissan maxima, nissan maxima

Question
I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima and had to replace the transmission twice. Would that effect the timing chain? What are some of the signs of a timing chain needing to be replaced and when should you replace one?

Answer
Hi Tameca -

Replacing the trans should have no effect on the chain.

Usually the chain will last the lifetime of the car, however soemtimes it gets stretched and will need replacement. It depends on the driver their driving habits. Quick jack rabbit starts and constant downshifts and qick accelerations will stretch it in time.

Usually when the chain is going, you will hear it knocking against the timing cover.

Hope this helps -
