Nissan Repair: 1998 Nissan Primera 1.6 twincam Si manual 5 speed, competent mechanic, mobile mechanic

Question
Hello again Calvin..and thanks for your answer yesterday about the NATS on my car. You asked if it was the check engine light, and did it go out after a few seconds? Well the answer is no, it doesn't go out! Today I disassembled the distributor and took out the HT coil, and wondered if there was any way to check if it was blown? I would hate to drive 60 miles to buy one, only to find it wasn't the coil!
Thanks again for your help!
Nick

Answer
Hi Nick -

I do not think there is a way to check this coil without some elaborate electrical tester. While you have it out, you might have it checked by a competent mechanic. Hopefully you do not have to drive 60 miles to find one?

The first thing I would do - Since the check engine light does not go out, then it is telling you that there is an error code. Unfortunately you need a special "OBD" device to downlaod the code and then it will tell you what it is. That will narrow down the problem for your car and you will then have a starting point for repair.

I know you can't drive the car to get it checked, perhaps you have some mobile mechanic nearby?

Hope this helps -
aloha
