Nissan Repair: flickering dash lights, nissan altima, radio cassette player

Question
Hey Calvin, I drive a 97 Nissan Altima and recently I had the window replaced, but right after the all dash lighting flickers on and off (cluster gauge, heater/ac controller, radio/cassette player, etc). I'm not sure if it does this while driving without the parking lights or headlights on, but flickers while its on. This problem intermittently happens at anytime while driving or parked with the parking lights on or head lights on and idles/drives with no problem. I also noticed the front parking lights are not working, but may just be blown out bulbs. Please help

Answer
Hello -

OK, first order of business is to get the parking lights working. Get a probe type circuit tester with light and with the light switch on, check power to the innermost contact in the light socket. If there is power, replace the light bulbs.

If there is no power, then the problem lies either with the wiring, fuse, or light switch. Most common problem is the fuse. Please check that one.

As for the flickering lights, I think your model has a dimmer switch on the dash. Try to locate that one and turn it to max and minimal several times. Then turn it to max and leave it there. If the lights continue to flicker, replace the dimming switch.

Hope this helps -
