Nissan Repair: 1992 Nissan sentra, fuel pressure gauge, nissan sentra

Question
My car was working fine than while going up a hill the engine started to chock and than would not start.  after setting over night it started but would only run for a few minutes than died.  I was told it was the Fuel pump but when you engage the key I can hear the pump pressurize.  but as you push on the gas it doesn't rev up it chocks out and dies. I removed the fuel line from the engine and engaged the key and get a steady stream of fuel through the filters.

Any information would be helpful I only have two days to get this worked out and little funds to start replacing this and that.

Answer
Rick,

Sounds like the pump to me.  I would go to Checker or a parts store of your choice and get a fuel pressure gauge and verify that the pump has failed.  No fuel pressure when it dies will let you know that the fuel pump or relay have failed.  The relay is cheap and you do not have to remove the tank to replace it.  Do this first.  If there is still no pressure get a pump and replace yours.  If the pump is good then I would be looking at the air meter as the next suspect.  A Haynes Manual is the best resource for diagnostics procedures and values.  If you do not have the funds the library has the books and you just copy the pages you need to get the job done.
