Chrysler Repair: Output speed sensor replacement, vertical shift, dodge stratus

Question
Could you please give me the "for dummies" version of how to replace an output speed sensor on a 2002 Dodge Stratus 2.7? Thanks

Answer
Hi JT,
The sensor simply unscrews from the side of the transmission after you remove the plug (gently release and remove locking tab). The new one screws in and should be tightned to about 20 foot-pounds, about the same as a spark plug. It is located on the far end of the power train, to the right of the vertical shift rod, and faces the front of the car at about mid-level. Depending upon the surrounding parts you may have to get it from underneath the car rather than from above. Be sure that the O-ring seal at the base of the threads is transferred from the old sensor to the new sensor if one is not provided with the replacement.
