Nissan Repair: 2004 Nissan Pathfinder, nissan pathfinder, 2004 nissan pathfinder

Question
2004 Nissan Pathfinder-127,000 miles.  Lately rpms will drop to 0 when going up a mountain at high speed or will shoot up to 6 or 7 when going up a mountain.  When I let off of the gas it seems to return to normal automatically.  Not sure why this is happening.  Do I need to change the transmission fluid/filter?  Trying to save my car-love this Nissan so much! Also, the transmission tends to make a "humming" sound periodically.  Not sure why this is happening-and it happens randomly.

Answer
Jen,

Have the transmission serviced.  As in, a new filter and fluid.  The RPMs are really doing this or is the cluster doing strange things.  if the RPMs drop to zero do you have to restart the vehicle?  If not it is the cluster.  If you have to restart the vehicle then we are looking at reading codes to see what the engine is doing.  Email me back and let me know more...
