Nissan Repair: 1996 Nissan Terrano, nissan terrano, oil dipstick

Question
Just purchased a 1996 Terrano (Automatic) and it needed a transmission kit. Two days after getting the kit installed  I noticed a leak under the area near where the gears are. I took it back to the mechanic and he looked under but said it was dry did not see a leak. I took it home and have had it over the weekend and there is definitely a leak but the transmission oil level is still full when I check it. The oil leaking appears to be the same color as the transmission fluid. What do you think it is? I am going back to the mechanic but the last time he really tried to brush me off.

Answer
Hi Lorraine

First of all please ensure that it is indeed trans oil, and coming from the area that was worked on. If yuou are not sure, take some oil from the leak and smell it. Then pull your trans oil dipstick and smell that. If it is not the same, then it is probably an enhine oil leak, not tgrans (have you checked the regular oil?)

If you saw the leak and the mechanic says it is dry, I don't understand why he did not see it. Are you saying that the oil is coming from where the linkage enters the trans?

Let me know -
