Nissan Repair: speedometer problem, vehicle speed sensor, wheel sensors

Question
2001 nissan maxima has a speedo that only reads to 25 mph. Nissan garage said speed sensor and wire for it were missing. That seems odd, car runs great. Heard from other forums that starting in 2001 maximas picked up speed sensors from wheel sensors not transmission. any help would be apprecited.

Answer
Mike,

There is a vehicle speed sensor on the transmission.  On the driver's side of the car looking down from the master cylinder you will see the unit and plug.  Takes a ten millimeter wrench to replace it.  Disconnect the battery or have the code reset to clear it in memory.  If the vehicle speed sensor does not do the trick then the speedometer is defective.  I have a 2000 Maxima SE and it was the vehicle speed sensor on mine.
