Nissan Repair: AC repair 1992 Primera 1.6SLX (W10), pollen filter, cabin filter

Question
QUESTION: Hi!

I'm replacing AC compressor, and I would like to put everything at 100%.
Can you tell me if I should replace anything else?
Where is the pollen filter...?
I never changed it, since the AC compressor was down, and probably, neither the previous owner.
Now, the interior AC radiator, is really dirty...

Thanks!
Nelson Santos

ANSWER: Nelson,

If you are replacing the compressor please replace the receiver dryer.  Also, if the evaporator is dirty you could clean that too.  Now, it is a remote possibility that the expansion valve, connects to the evaporator, could need replacement too.  But, that is not often that it needs to be replaced.  Other than that you have all the bases covered.

QUESTION: It seems that I can't open the evaporator box to clean it... It has a front horizontal union with screws, but it seems to be a single piece. Maybe if I take the blower box out...? The blower box and evaporator box are side by side.

Other detail: there's no cabin filter at all!!! I believe the filter's place is near the front glass, at the bottom. I know it isn't inside, near the evaporator, as on the w11 and p11 models.

The previous owner sold it to me with cabin filter. Since I never changed it before, so, I never noticed...

Now, imagine the evaporator, without a cabin filter... It looks like something that I cant write here. The air only passes arround the evaporator. Is it possible that this situation caused the compressor's dead?

Thanks for your attention!

Answer
Nelson,

The filter is under the dash.  I would remove the blower case and access the evaporator from there.  Clean it out and replace the cabin filter.

This would not cause the compressor to go out.  I would replace the compressor and receiver dryer and evacuate the system and check the system pressures.  If you have the money you could purchase the expansion valve as a precautionary measure.  If there is any trash in the system I would replace it too.  Be sure to get new o-rings and if you can use R-12 stick with it.  If not a conversion to R-134 is not going to cool as good as the old stuff...
