Nissan Repair: car wont start, nissan 200 sx, starter wire

Question
I have a 97 nissan 200 sx 1.6 l stick shift. My car wouldn't start so I bought a new starter but it is not the starter, it is a bad wire which doesn't feed the starter a charge. The only way to start it is by touching the starter with a screwdriver. Any idea what wire went bad. Thank you

Answer
Steven,

The starter wire is defective or the ignition switch or even the ignition fuse.  Check the fuse first and if it is good backprobe the small wire to the starter and keep going back through the harness until you get power.  You can also check the power from the ignition switch and work your way down.  Usually, the wire is defective under the hood or the ignition switch has failed.
