Nissan Repair: nissan terrano, crank angle sensor, wd 40

Question
I live in Belize and have a 2004 Terrano.
After multipal garage visits it still loses power and eventually just stops, but only when it rains,  then restarts fine. But this does not happen every time it rains.

I have looked at the bonnet and the air vent  has nothing to stop water entering the metal air grill under it.
Would water entering this be a probable cause of my problem ?
Is it meant to have some kind of filter to stop water entering ?
Obviusly the climate out here is very harsh on vehicles and rain can fall at amazing amounts in short spells. 2-3 inches in 20 minutes
Any advice greatly recieved, we have no real Nissan specialist here in the country.

Answer
Russel,

It would not be water entering the air intake.  If this happened the engine would die due to hydraulic lock.  I would suspect the crank angle sensor close to the crank or the cam position sensor.  I would have these disconnected from the harness and spray them with WD 40 or a dab of di electric grease to keep the water out.  You have an electrical shorting problem and these are the two most common causes.  Check the connectors and go from there.
