Nissan Repair: Nissan 93 Pathfinder, nissan dealer, hydraulic unit

Question
I have a 1993 pathfinder that has been in a shop for a few days being looked at and one of the things that was said to be bad is the Anti Skid Proportioning Valve. Nissan dealer wants 1400 for it, and I am curious, that if it does need replacing, can a used one from another year be used, or can a ABS Hydraulic Unit from Cardone replace it ok.

Answer
Burton,

If they are saying the ABS needs to be replaced a rebuilt unit will work.  I cannot see a proportioning valve costing $1400.  A used one would do if it is in good shape and you can do it yourself.  Bleed the brakes with Ford High Performance (DOT3) brake fluid for a firm pedal.  This fluid works in your system and has twice the boiling point of DOT3 fluid from the store.  Do not use synthetic since is will screw up the ABS (Anti Skid).
