Nissan Repair: replacing 96 maxima alternator, alternator belt, flex head

how do you replace the alternator on a 96 maxima?

Hi Roland -

I am assuming you have the tools required. Metric socket set preferably with flex head ratchet and extensions, open end wrenches 14MM and 10MM will help.

Disconnect battery negative side (very important)
Loosen alternator bolts (the bracket bolt and adjustment bolt and remove the belt
You may have to remove other belts to get to the alternator belt
This is a good time to replace the belts
Remove the red wire attached to the alternator (10mm bolt)
Remove the terminal plugged into the alternator
It may be easier to remove the alternator first before disconnecting wires, but be careful not to damage them
Continue to remove the bolts loosened earlier until completely off, place on the side

Installation is reverse of removal.
