Nissan Repair: ABS Light, friend test, performance brake

Question
Hello again, Von,
My ABS light came on on my 01 Sentra SE.  The car had been sitting for about 4 days and everything was fine when I parked it.  Anyway, I came home and shut the car off to see if I could get it to reset and it did until I took it for a drive.  Once home I reset it and the light is off again.  Last time this happened a few years ago and the light didn't reset I had a friend test the system and had a bad sensor.  Before I call upon him again I just wanted to see if you had any thoughts on what could be happening(could just be a glitch because it was stormy out and very humid-I don't know).  Anyway, any thoughts/suggestions on the matter would be helpful.

Thanks,
Tim

Answer
Tim,

If the brake fluid has not been flushed in two years that could cause the ABS light problem.  A bad wheel sensor or a damaged wire or connector at the wheels could cause the problem too.  Being wet out could contribute to the ABS light coming on if a connector was loose or a wire was damaged.  You could look at each brake assembly, with the tires off and inspect for damage before taking it to your friend.  Also, I would recommend bleeding the brakes if they have not been in the past two years.  I like Ford High Performance Brake Fluid since it has twice the boiling point of DOT3 fluid.  Remember not to use synthetic brake fluid or any other than DOT3 since that is what Nissan recommends.
