Nissan Repair: Nissan x-trail fuel filter, nissan x trail, water intrusion

Question
Hi,

Our 2002 Nissan X-Trail is doing to bunny hop with out help and we think its dirty fuel. How can we tell without going to the shop? And where is it on the car?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Alison -

Is there a reason for your fuel to be contaminated? Maybe water intrusion, vandals or if it has not been runs for several months. If not it could be the fuel pump, or fuel filter, especially if the vehicle goes down below 1/8 tank often.

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank, and the fuel filter should be near the fuel tank attached to the frame of the car.

Unfortunately it takes some special equipment to do the testing, so it is hard to get around that. It is not expensive to replace the filter, so I would start with that. If you have basic tools, you can replace it yourself. Just that it is messy, with fuel coming out, and you will have to crawl under the car.

Hope this helps -
