Nissan Repair: 2001 Xterra SE, battey, timing belt change

Question
I had the timing belt replaced, the car started and idled ok, I drove off went about a block and it won't start now. I ran the battey down, so I bought a new one, I noticed before the new battery, and afterwards, it makes a very noticeable whining noise around the front end area. It didn't make this noise when the timing belt was first replaced, nor did I notice it after it stopped on me and failed to start, and I would have noticed it because its very noticeable, and I listen closely to the sound of my engine. Please assist.

Answer
Danny,

Sounds like the timing jumped.  That is, the water pump or idler pulley is sticking and that probably caused the jump in timing.  I would pull the cover and inspect to verify the timing jumped.  If that is the case it is simply a matter of resetting the timing with the marks on the timing belt and verifying the idler and tensioner pulleys are in good working order as is the fuel pump.  I always replace these when I do a timing belt change since it is a pain to take it a part again if you have not.  Just me and my bad luck talking here.
