Nissan Repair: 95 Nissan Quest GXE, lockup torque converter, nissan quest

Question
My van is sick. Please help!! There was nasty roads in the winter last year and all was fine till one day I noticed when I was driving that the O/D light flashed on a couple times. It did this intermittently for a day and then one time it came on and stayed on and when I came to a stop it was like coming to a stop without pushing in the clutch in a manual tranny vehicle. Now when I turn the key on the light flashes several times (I think it was 12 or 14) and then stays on. No matter whether it is reverse or any forward gear it dies as soon as I engage the tranny. I REALLY don't want to have to replace the tranny. Hoping it is a sensor problem of some sort. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Isaac,

The lockup torque converter has stuck or the relay that applies it has failed.  A transmission shop will be able to tell you if it is the torque converter, transmission partial rebuild or just the sensor or solenoid.  If you explain it like this they will know you have a grasp on what is wrong and they should be honest with you.  Ask your friends which shop they use and have had good luck with.
