Nissan Repair: 1999 nissan quest, nissan quest, phillips head

Question
QUESTION: i have a 1999 nissan quest and after driving for approximately 18 miles it starts skipping and idling erractic, when i let it set and cool down it will drive fine until it warms up again.  I change the spark plugs and wire and rotor button, and i also change the fuel filter.  Someone suggested that the fuel pump maybe bad. What do you think about it

ANSWER: Hi Bernard -

Before condemning the fuel pump, try replacing the ignition module in the distributor. Those are famous for failing when the engine heats up, due to its location and sensitive components.

QUESTION: i took the distributor cap off and the rotor button and notice metal shaving inside the distributor but we purchase the vehicle used and distributor must had some work done.  Because the bolt that is attached to the shaft (i guess) is stripped and i can't remove it. Do you have any advise to removing it, it was a phillips head screw.

Answer
Hi Bernard -

Provided you have the clearance, take a high quality side cutter and pinch the head of the screw from the side, making sure you catch the middle of the head on either side. Squeeze the cutter firmly while slowly turning the screw in the counter clockwise direction. 99% of the time this should do the trick.
