Nissan Repair: 2006 Sentra, 2006 nissan sentra, nissan sentra

Question
I have a 2006 Nissan Sentra with 71,000 miles. I know that the transmission needs servicing and I am reading alot of information online that it is better(and supposedly Nissan recommends) to drain and fill as opposed to a transmission flush.
Could you please tell me what an expert would do? Iam still paying for this car and am terrified that something will go wrong with a transmission flush. Which will cause me to have to get a new transmission.

Thank you in advance for your expertise and time.
Sincerely,
P. Wilcoxon

Answer
Priska,

The transmission should just be drained and filled.  If you do the service at 25K to 30K you could do a flush each time.  But, after this many miles the transmission is accustomed to the fluid.  If you flush it the transmission will not respond well.  Think of the fluid as a liquid clutch and as such, you flush it clean and the clutches and bands will start slipping causing you to need a rebuilt transmission.  Just drain and fill.  Under four quarts of Dextron III fluid and you will be fine.
