Nissan Repair: altima no run, mass airflow sensor, nissan altima

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1994 nissan altima, and the car a has shut down and will not run. I have replaced, plugs, wires, rotor, cap, distributor, fuel filter. Pulled fuel line loose so I am getting fuel. Perhaps the ECU ? Any suggestions  would be great . No check engine lights have been on at this point. Thank you in advance !

ANSWER: Curtis,

I would check for spark.  If no spark you need to check the ignitor.  If you have spark get a Haynes Manual and a digital volt ohm meter and check the mass airflow sensor.  Email me back with what you find.

QUESTION:  I am not sure where the ignitor is . I did not know this car had one, where abouts would this be located. Earlier there was ticking noise coming from the top side of the transmission when I had the key in the on position ? It is cold and rainy and dark so I will ohm the mass air in the morning.

ANSWER: Curtis,

Driver's side strut tower.  The click is just the valve body servo clicking.

Before you change the pump try a new fuel pump relay.

To change the fuel pump remove the back seat and there should be a panel you remove to get to the fuel pump.

Disconnect battery first

No open flame

No drop lights

Someone with a fire extinguisher near by

Do the fuel pump relacement with plenty of ventilation

I saw a shop in Richardson, Texas burn to the ground by a couple of guys, with a lift, doing a fuel pump replacement.  The drop light fell on the ground and when the bulb popped the fuel lit and it was all over before the the Fire Truck got there.  They were OK but the car and the shop and other cars in it were cooked.

Clean the top of the tank to prevent dirt and debris from falling into the tank once the pump is out

Use a new gasket/o-ring on the fuel pump where it seals against the tank

New fuel line and clamps

Buy factory since aftermarket ones tend to fail way too soon
