Jeep Repair: 96 Jeep Cherokee starter circuit, solenoid coil, jeep cherokee

Question
QUESTION: Starter intermittantly inop. Tough to troubleshoot because intermitent. The starter/with solinoid was replaced because it seemed to work when tapped with a bar, but that did not fix the problem. Also replaced the small starter motor relay located in the engine compartment fuse box. How do you get to the neutral position switch to test, and how do you test the power control module.

ANSWER: what kinda no start are we talking about then  will spin over  and not fire  or do u get a click  or fast clicks  or  nothing at all when u turn the key over?

QUESTION: Starter is inoperative... as it will not turn over because there is not 12 volts to the solenoid coil terminal connector when the key is turned. Battery is good and does not dim. When I turn the key I do have 12 volts to the small starter motor relay located in the engine compartment fuse box. Like I said it is intermittent and I can't troubleshoot more till it quits again. I have cycled the automatic transmission lever many times to see if it helped / it didn't, but I don't know what else is left but the neutral position switch. I haven't tried to find it yet. The wiring schematic I had, showed a connection from the power control module to the neutral position switch, but the more I look at it I'm guessing it doesn't have anything to do with the starter.

Answer
the neutral position switch has everything to do with the starter.  If the jepe is not in park u cant start it up  so if it does not know if u are in park or neutral it wont start. I have one I am working on with the same deal as yours  and I am putting in a neutral position switch and it works.
