Nissan Repair: 2003 Infiniti QX4 brake booster?, 2003 infiniti qx4, infiniti qx4

Question
QUESTION: This ride is a fancy 2003 Pathfinder...
OK. Have a hiss that is assuredly a vacuum leak coming from the inside of the car underneath the dash at the brake pedal that started today, it was MINUS 30 degrees here last night, Frozen car etc.... Now here's the strange part.. WHEN i push the brake pedal IN it stops. I can push the pedal in just slightly with my hand and make it stop.
It returns when the brakes are used etc.. SO by barely touching the pedal it will stop and stay stopped for a time. When the pedal extends out all the way it is back.. Is the booster leaking inside the car?? Could it be a gasket, or vac line down there.
Thanks alot with any help or ideas.

ANSWER: RL Price,

The vacuum booster is the most probable source of the vacuum leak.  When you puch the pedal in the brake booster seals off.  It is not a difficult replacement but it is time consuming.  rockauto.com or courtesyparts.com are two good sources for the booster.  A Haynes Manual will show the instructions with diagrams and photographs.

QUESTION: You say vacuum booster and brake booster. One and the same?? Brake booster?
Thanks

Answer
RL Price,

Yes, they are one in the same.  The vacuum booster and brake booster are the same thing.  Check out the sources I mentioned for a a cheaper price than your local parts store or the dealer.  Go with the best price.  Takes a couple of hours to replace.
