Nissan Repair: Nissan Maxima Overheating, nissan maxima, leaky hose

Question
My maxima was running very hot this morning to the point that smoke was coming from under the hood; however, the odd part was that if I pulled to the side of the road and put the car in park and left it idle the engine would cool back down, but as soon as I put it in drive and started moving again it would quickly heat back up and begin to smoke again.  The fatser the car was going the faster it would overheat.  Any idea what would cause this?

Answer
Lourie,

You need to get the engine checked for a leaky hose or a blown headgasket.  I cannot tell which one it is without looking at it.  First, get the coolant filled back up.  Then, start the car and check for leaks.  If there are no leaks and steam is not coming out of the exhaust and the oil is not contaminated with antifreeze I would suggest a thermostat replacement.  Also, make sure the cooling fans are working.
