Nissan Repair: Jumping a dead battery, dead car, modern electronics

Question
Dear Expert,

When I am jump starting the dead car, I was told to step on the gas pedal of the source car, revving it up to high rpms in order to give the charge a little more "juice".  Is there any logic in this?  Does it actually do anything?  Thanks in advance.

Michael

Answer
Michael,

Yes, getting the RPMs up on the car that is providing power is good as it increases the output of the alternator.  Not too high a revs since the engine is unloaded.  I try to hold the RPMs to 2000 when jumping.  Also, this is one of those last resort things as a replacement battery that is charged is a much better solution.  I say this since modern electronics can be damaged by jumping a car and this includes the one providing the power.
