Nissan Repair: 95 Nissan Altima, camshaft sensor, crank shaft

Question
Our 95 Altima(stick shift)completely died and would not start and it was giving us a engine light/code- we looked it up and it was the Camshaft sensor.
So we replaced the camshaft sensor (on this car the ignition module is in the camshaft sensor(distributor), the rotor, & cap, and the air filter and now the car will start but only run for 5 minutes and then die. After we restart it 5 or 6 times the engine will finally get warm enough that the fan will kick on and then the car will stay on.But it is still coming up with the code for the camshaft sensor.
would the engine temp sensor cause this?
How do we test to see if the new camshaft sensor is bad?
Also, the crank shaft sensor has no volts when we test it, could this be the cause? The Haynes manual says that it should have a volt reading when tested.
Do you know what is causing our car to shut off?
THANKS!

Answer
Michelle,

I would check the rebuilt distributor that you had installed to make sure the optics are on and there is no oil on the optics.  Also, make sure the base timing is set properly.  Also, that the sparkplugs are recently replaced.  Lastly, did you reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for five minutes?  If not, the code will still be in computer memory.
